Viva Kerala (the name of the club was suggested by Dr. P Ramakrishnan of Ernakulam in a contest) took off officially on August 19, 2004 at ceremony held at FACT grounds.

Former Fisheries and Tourism Minister of Kerala, Sports Minister of Kerala Dominic Presentation, K Babu MLA, Kerala Football Association President K M I Mather, CMD of FACT S Balan, GM of Dy. FACT K Padmadasan and hundreds of football fans attended the ceremony.

Professional training, work out and beach training began under coach T K Chathunni and physical trainer Biju Tony.

8. KERALA CRICKET ASSOCIATION

Cricket is still considered to be in the infancy stages in Kerala but history reveals that Cricket as a game had taken roots among the masses much before in Kerala than many other parts in India; which are considered to be Cricketing Bastions. Lord Arthur Wellesley is believed to have introduced this game in Kerala in the 18th century for the British Soldiers who were garrisoned in the Tellichery Fort. It is recorded in the history that the first Cricket Club was formed in 1860 at Tellichery, which was later renamed as Town Cricket Club. The Tellichery Cricket ground was the hub of cricket activities those days. It has been reported that an exhibition match was conducted in this ground to raise funds during the First World War. During the early days it was mostly the Europeans who played cricket but later on the local people also started showing interest in this game.
EA Cowdrey father of MC Cowdrey, the famous English cricketer had contributed a lot to the make Cricket in popular in Kerala. During 1950s Foot ball took over the minds of north Keralites and cricket became an active game in Thiruvananthapuram (erstwhile Trivandrum) and Thripoonithura. In Thripoonithura the royal family patronized the game very actively and formed a club - The Thripoonithura Cricket club in 1935. The Club started organizing a Cricket tournament as part of the Navarathri festival (Pooja festival, as it is locally known). The tournament continues un-interruptedly even on these days and still it is conducted during the Pooja holidays. It is popularly known as the Pooja Cricket Tournament and arguably one of the best organized all India tournaments in Kerala. They are probably the only Cricket Club in Kerala having their own stadium and turf Pitch. KV Kelappan Thampuran was the livewire behind the great achievements of TCC.
