Jayan K.C (Jayan K. Cherian) born in India, writes in Malayalam, which is the native language of Kerala,one of the southern states of India. He started to write poems as a teenager. Currently living in new York and writing poems and articles for periodicals in India as well as in united states. He published four collections of poetry in Malayalam “Ayodhanaththinte Achuthantu’ (Axis of Combat),(1996), “Ayanam vachana rekhayil”(Journey on the line of verse) (1999) , 'Polymorphism' (2002), and Pachakku (2006). Received many Awards for Poetry such as, Kerala Sahitya Academy Kanakasri Endowment Award for “Ayanam vachana rekhayil” 2002.

Distinguished writer T. Padmanabhan has won this year's Muttathu Varkey Award, the highest award given for Malayalam Literature. It was constituted by Muttathu Varkey's fans, friends, and relatives. The winner was selected by popular opinion voting system and then prominent judges' final decision.
Announcing this at a news conference, Muttathu Varkey foundation Chairman M K Madhavan Nair and Secretary Dr. Mathew J Muttathu said the award, consisting of a cash prize of Rs 33,333, memento and citation would be presented at a function at Kazhikode on May 28, the 18th death anniversary of Muttathu Varkey

The Department founded in 1961 on the initiative of the then University Librarian Professor K A Isaac is the premier school of librarianship and information science in Kerala and one of the early teaching and research departments in the University of Kerala. Located in the Kerala University Library Building, presently the Department offers B L I Sc, M L I Sc, M Phil programmes and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Information Technology (PG-DIT). It also enrolls candidates for research leading to Ph D degree. In addition, the department undertakes research projects, continuing education programmes, and extension activities and offers consultancy services.Initially there was only the Bachelor of Library Science (B Lib Sc) course, which was later renamed as Bachelor of Library and Information Science (B L I Sc).
The Master of Library and Information Science (M.L.I.Sc.) course was introduced in 1979, with six seats, out of which three were reserved to practicing librarians. The number was subsequently enhanced to 12 and in 1998 a Part-time M L I Sc course was introduced, as a self financing course, and that too in response to the demands from the practicing librarians for opportunities for their professional development. Since1996 M.L.I.Sc. is offered as semesterised course, consisting of two semesters, each of 5 months duration, with total credits of 38, out of which 32 are for core courses and 6 for electives.
Since 1982-83 the Department has been enrolling Scholars for Ph D. At present there are 6 supervising teachers including external ones, recognised for guiding research in Library and Information Science. The Department started the M Phil course in Library and Information Science in 1998.

The Kerala Sahitya Akademi is an autonomous institution established for the promotion and development of Malayalam language and literature. Formally inaugurated by the then Raja Pramukh late Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma Raja of Travancore at Kanakakunu Palace, Thiruvananthapuram on 15th October, 1956, the Akademi started functioning in the Secretariat, Thiruvananthapuram and later on was shifted to a room in the Thrissur Museum Bungalow. In September, 1957 it was again shifted to the present beautiful building near the Thrissur Town Hall.

Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad is a People’s Science Movement of Kerala, India. Founded in 1962, it works at the science society interface with about 40 members as an organisation of science writers in Malayalam. Over the past four decades it has grown into a mass movement with a membership over 40000, distributed in more than two thousand units spread all over Kerala.

KUWJ has its origin in the eastwhile Thiru-kochi Working Journalists Union which was born in December 7 of 1950 in Ernakulam.
The formation meeting was held in office of the Deenabandhu daily which was the officail newspaper of the Indain Nationl Congress.The meeting was called by Mr Perunna KN Nair.Mr Raman Pillai was elected President and Mr Perunna KN Nair Generasl Secertary. An enlarged convention of journalists of Thiru-kochi held in Kottayam later renaed the organisation as Working Journalists Union.It was then registered as a trade union. When unified Kerala was born in 1956,Kerala Union of Working Journalists also took shape.Mr K Karthikeyan of Kerala Kaumudi and Mr P.Viswambharan of UNI were elected as President and General Secretary respectively.
