Though the Indian Dental Association, at the centre was formed as early as in 1946 it took more than two decades for the formation of the Kerala State branch of the IDA. The initiative for the formation of the state branch was taken primarily by late Dr. Jacob Zechariah. An ad-hoc committee was formed in 1967 with late Dr. Jacob Zechariah as the convener and Dr. M.K.James and Dr. K. G. Nair as Members. The primary objective of the this committee was to organise the dental surgeons of the state and to form the kerala state branch of IDA. The committee held meetings at Eranakulam and Trivandrum. A constitution was prepared for the Kerala State Branch. Communications were send to all practicing dental surgeons of this state. The formal inauguration of the IDA, Kerala State Branch was conducted on, Sunday the 2nd February, 1969.

Kerala State Pharmacy Council,A Statutory Body Constituted By The Govt. Of Kerala
The Pharmacy Act, 1948 was enforced in the State of Kerala on 1st June 1960. The State Government as per Notification No.HL(A) 5-80033/59/EHD dated 31st May 1960 has issued orders appointing 1st June 1960 as the date on which Chapters III, IV, and V of the said Act shall take effect in the whole of the State except the territories referred to as Malabar District in section 5 (2) of the State Reorganisation Act, where the said Chapters are already in force.
Section 30 (1) of the Pharmacy Act, 1948 empowers the State Government to constitute a Pharmacy Registration Tribunal consisting of three persons and to appoint a Registrar who shall act as the Secretary of the Registration Tribunal. As such the State Government, as per notification No.MS.633/60/HLD dated 15th June 1960 has constituted a Registration Tribunal consisting of the following persons for the purpose of preparing the first Register of Pharmacists under the Act.

The Calicut Medical College was established in 1957 as the 2nd Medical College in Kerala. Since then ,the institution has grown into a premier center of Medical Education in the state. The vast and sprawling Medical College complex is spread over an extensive area of 270 acres located in picturesque surroundings about 10 km from the heart of Calicut. It is affiliated to the University of Calicut and serves 2/5 of the population of Kerala.

The Thirumala Devaswom Medical College established in 1963 in the private sector was taken over by the government in 1972. It is the fourth Medical College in the state and is situated in the suburban area of Vandanam, 9 km south of the Alappuzha district of Kerala State, South India.

Government of India(GOI) attaches greatest importance to safe drinking water supply and recognizes its vital role in the health of the people. The National Water Policy gives top priority to drinking water supply. GOI has set a target of covering all the uncovered habitations in the country by 2003 AD. GOI provides funds to State Government under the aegis of the Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission (RGNDWM) set up in 1990 specifically for this purpose. GOI has also laid down minimal per capita water supply norms of 40 lpcd (liters per capita per day) in the rural areas and 70 lpcd in the urban areas. Though water is primarily under the jurisdiction of States, policies of GOI are applicable to the entire country.
