Kerala's achievements in social development and quality of life are, no doubt, inspiring and encouraging. The state has achieved a human development index comparable to the developed countries of the World. Prof. Amartya Sen has attributed these achievements largely to the priority which the state has accorded to high literacy among all Indian states and education for a long time.

Colleges (49)
There are Seven Universities in Kerala and 592 Colleges providing a whole bunch of education all together.Professional colleges and arts colleges altogether caters the need of higher education in Kerala.

Schools (2)
There was phenomenal growth in school education infrastructure during the past 3 decades. Schooling has been conducted in three different stages - primary, secondary and higher secondary.

Universities (5)
Kerala has seven universities at present, they are 1. Kerala University - Thiruvananthapuram 2. Calicut University - Kozhikkod 3. Cochin University of Science and Technology- Kochi 4. Mahatma Gandhi University- Kottayam 5. Kannur University-Kannur 6. Kerala Agricultural University-Thrissur 7. Sri Sankara University of Sanskrit- Kalady Under Kerala, Calicut, Mahatma Gandhi and Kannur Universities there are 186 Arts & Science Colleges, of which 38 are Government Colleges and 148 are in Private aided Sector.

3. M.G.University Kottayam Kerala

The Mahatma Gandhi University (formerly Gandhiji University), with B+ accreditation of National Assessment and Accreditation Council, was established on 2nd October 1983, as the fifth University in the Southern most State of Kerala,India.
Hiving off the territorial jurisdiction of the mother institution – University of Kerala, as per the Mahatma Gandhi University Act, 12 of 1985,enacted by the Kerala state Legislature, the twenty-two year young University caters to the development of higher education of Central Kerala. Higher learning in the Revenue Districts of Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki, Kozhencherry, Mallappally, Thiruvalla and Ranni Taluks of the Pathanamthitta District and Kuttanad Taluk of the Alapuzha District comes under the aegis of Mahatma Gandhi University.
