Amrita School of Engineering was started in 2002 as "Amrita Institute of Technology & Science" with a vision to produce quality engineers with service attitude for the benefit of the society and nation. The school was conceived of as the grooming ground for future engineering professionals of India. Initially it had only three branches: Computer Science, Electronics & Communication and Information Technology. It was then affiliated to the University of Kerala.In 2004, Amrita Institute of Technology & Science came under the ambit of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Deemed University and now it is called as "Amrita School of Engineering". College of Engineering, Kidangoor, Kottayam was established during the year 2000-2001 under the Co-operative Academy of Professional Education (CAPE), which is a Kerala Government undertaking registered under Charitable Societies Act. Besides this college, CAPE is having, four other Engineering Colleges, located at Perumon, Vadakara, Thalassery and Thrikkaripur, and one Medical College at Kochi. The College is affiliated to Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The admissions are as per the list forwarded by the Controller of Entrance Examinations, Kerala and functioning of the college is as per the rules and regulations formulated by the Government of Kerala and CAPE.
