  • ERANAKULAM
    Ernakulam district was formed in 1958 by taking out regions from Thrissur and Kottayam districts. The district comprises parts of former Travancore, Cochin and Madras States. In 1972, when the Idukki district was formed taking regions from Ernakulam and Kottayam districts the entire formed Idukki district. A new taluk Kothamangalam was formed by bifurcating the Muvattupuzha taluk. The district is bounded by 30 km. of coast line of the Arabian Sea on the west, Kottayam and Alappuzha districts on the south, Idukki on the east and Thrissur on the north. The district now ranks eighth in size in the State.
